Mostly always, there are the coated dogs in the Peruvian litters. These dogs are not coated by mistake in breeding, but they belong to the Peruvian breed. Some of the breeders say that it is a litter of hairless dogs that is genetically excluded. Each hairless dog also bears a coated gene. When these genes of the coated dogs fuse, the result will be a coated/hairy puppy.
The hair is usually short; its length is similar to the Whippets or Greyhounds. It may be moderately long; its length is similar to the Border Collies. The colour of the coat of the PERUVIAN COATED VARIETIES is unlimited; all the colour combinations are possible, from black to white annealing with spots, various shades of a sand colour that can be annealed. the coated puppies are issued proper pedigree certificates, are duly registered in the pedigree dog book with a note ?nonstandard?, therefore they do not participate in the exhibitions organized by the Club. In our country, they are not allowed to be used for breeding. In many countries, especially in Peru, these Peruvian coated/hairy individuals are used for breeding, where they, together with hairless dogs, enhance the quality of the Peruvian hairless dog breed.
