The Deformation of the Auricle and the External Auditory Canal Closure

In breeding of the Peruvian hairless dogs, there appear defects which are not usually written or spoken about. It is, for example, the cleft palate, the intergrown/closure of ear canal, etc.
At the beginning, I would like to emphasize that this article is based only on my experience, not based on any systematic scientific research.
What in fact preceded the defect of "deformation of the auricle and enclosure of the external auditory canal", because the defects of this type repeated. The female, mother of the puppies, was normally in heat for 35 days, she was staining for several days, part of the time this staining was hidden. In this case, the service was not planned, the female was in heat already for 42 days, and therefore after the agreement with the vet, she was serviced. Three days after the service, the staining stopped. And she gave birth to 4 puppies in due course; with the two of which the fault deformation of the auricle and the intergrown external auditory canal occurred. They were a male and female. I had previously read about this problem on the pages of the breeding station from the Netherlands. It was for the first time when this defect of the Peruvian hairless dogs was openly admitted and published; so in my article, I will use some findings of this Dutch female-breeder, who mainly deals with the genetic defects in the Peruvian hairless dogs.
Based on the e-mail inquiries from the long-term PENA breeders in Europe as well as the consultations with the female- breeder from the Netherlands, where the deformations of the auricle and the intergrown external auditory canal appeared in one litter, it was found out that these defects actually occurred in some litters; the breeding station, where the defect occurred with two puppies, the BAER test for deafness was performed, these two puppies were unilaterally deaf. The female-breeder from the Netherlands, after the consultations with other breeders and the vets, believes that it is a hereditary defect. As the breeders destroy the puppies immediately after they discover this defect, it is not possible to accept the idea that it is a hereditary defect. The deformations of the auricle and the intergrown external auditory canal often occur in breeding of the Chinese crested dog, the breeders, however, do not want to publicize the name of their breeding station.
Irrespective of these findings, I have contacted a few vets, hoping that I get some new important information. Unfortunately, the information on the deformation of the outer ear and the intergrown ear canal is very little, even in the professional circles, because most puppies affected by these defects are destroyed, either because the defect is much more serious and the puppy is not capable to live, or it is possible to transmit other defects incompatible with life; in most cases, however, the breeding stations are afraid of their good reputation; they do not deal with the defect and they destroy the puppies.
I found the defect with the puppies on the 6th day of their age, I contacted my vet. He had never met that defect before, but based on his knowledge he told me that the range of defects could be possible to diagnose it first at the age of 1 month, because at this age it is possible to say that the auditory system can be developed; despite this deformation of the external ear, the puppies need not be deaf. I contacted an excellent veterinary institute of Veterinary Faculty of Brno, VFU, where MVDr. Lorencová deals with the hearing defects. She examined the puppies at the age of 5 weeks; she took their photos, because she comes across with such defects very rarely. And her view is: in this case, it does not mean the hereditary defect or the deafness; there must have been some negative effect with the female during pregnancy that influenced the development of the puppies, despite she inclined not to include the puppies in breeding. Hereditary defect can be detected only by rear searching of the lines of ancestors. The Veterinary Faculty, VFU in Brno, has not started doing the BAER tests for hereditary deafness. Unilateral deafness with dogs cannot be detected without the BAYER test.
The tests for hereditary deafness are carried out at two veterinary clinics in the Czech Republic; one of them is Jaggy Clinic in Brno (MVDr. Petr Šrenk, DVM., Dipl.ECVN) , which I contacted. The tests are done at the age of 6 weeks; the puppies must be put under slight anaesthesia. These tests showed the puppies could hear on both sides. Even the vets of this Clinic believe that in this case it is not a hereditary defect, but an inborn defect that occurred on the base of some adverse development of the puppies during the pregnancy of the female. However, their recommendation was not to include the puppies in breeding. *The reason for this never ending staining was the open pyometra that stopped after the female was serviced, and it probably caused, in connection with other negative effects, the deformation of the auricle.
(The situations with staining repeated next time, therefore all tests were performed; the open course of pyometra was found out again, so the female was castrated.)

I only can thinking Why you are start tell lies? What is reason for this?
Everyone know my littrers 2003 coming two this kind puppy and they are opend and from they is made very good patology documetns.. And this reason, I know Why GOOD BREEDERS put down this kind puppies and patology look they very carefully... This is been my site alltimes—with parents pedicgree infos.
Only this moments my site in been down two monts—I am made new site now.... and I put up my site soon again.
All puppies what is been this kind – and what is been honest breeder – is opened!! is really irresponsible leave this kind puppies life – with they problems.. We not can know what kind of pain this kind dog have... I thinking so and I KNOW SO TOO!! and my one puppy is done this test too – what you done —but this not tell hole true--- after this test we are put puppy sleeping—and opend..
and All of my this kind puppies restults and infos and documents we are give to the this hairlless gene specialist doctors... they working with hairless gene and try found all what we need know from hairless gene. this group working people from switzerland, finland, norway and USA and many another country too, best doctor what we know and this group one docter found this hairless gene and this person who living in switzerland, she be with me two days and one half day in my home and taken many test for my dogs too..
in year 2003 we are send to the USA first time from my all dogs DNA- sample—and this day send many my puppies dna-sample too—about 30 dogs and they teeth maps too... – i have documents copies my home and finnish docter taken all samples... So I am working with this many years.... and I know lot – but I not need tell o everyone what I know and what we are done and what we will done in future.

I working with world best HAIRLESS gene researcher doctors—and I trust to they, very lot. And they know – they can get all my dogs DNA and all what they needs for they test—and most of my dogs bodys goes to they, if they need something special looking from my dogs.- they need only ask—Normally I call to they and I say—my dogs days coming to the END--- Do You need something – I have one doc... ... I not can done more this breed what I done and try.
